Why Choose a Two Night Wedding?

Are you looking for a Northumberland wedding venue with a difference? If so, you may wish to consider Ellingham Hall – because we are the specialists of the ‘Two Night Wedding’.

But what makes our weddings stand out from the crowd?

Our Two Night Wedding experience allows you to enjoy a more relaxing wedding celebration, as you and your guests take over the Hall and grounds from late afternoon the night before, until you’ve said your farewells, the morning after your ‘big day’.

This means you don’t have the stress of getting to the venue on the day you tie the knot. And because the night before allows friends and family from both sides to break the ice and mingle, this sets the atmosphere on the wedding day off to the perfect start!

Home of the Two Night Wedding

Since opening our doors in 2007, our family-owned wedding venue wanted to do things differently.

Our founders decided to offer couples the entire Hall and its eight acres of picturesque grounds and woodland across two nights of wedding celebrations. That’s because they understand how stressful it is, squeezing all of your celebrations into a single day. Also, as Ellingham offers so much for you and your guests to enjoy and explore – they wouldn’t want you to miss out!

They wanted couples to have the chance to spend quality time with their families and friends, enjoying exclusive use, so they’d never bump into other wedding parties during their Two Night Wedding Experience.

Over the past 17 years, Ellingham Hall has become renowned for its unforgettable two-night weddings and has set the trend for such an experience.

A lot of our success is thanks to our multi award-winning team, who feel like part of your family during your stay. The teams passion and wealth of experience in planning and delivering dream weddings is highly praised by couples. Nothing is too much trouble, and as a result, our couples have a wedding they and their guests will always remember.

From the luxurious accommodation, homely reception rooms, underground party Den and an array of alfresco terraces and luscious lawns and woodland, we offer something for every family member to enjoy.

For us, it’s the small details that make a big difference to your wedding.

Why Couples love our Two Night Wedding Experience

Since 2007 we have enjoyed listening to our couples feedback, which has helped us to continually improve our venue and wedding experience. Couples told us they love:

-Spending quality time with friends and family, so they have more time to prepare, celebrate and relax.

-Enjoying complete privacy and there’s no chance of bumping into other wedding parties at the venue or within the grounds.

-Mingling and chatting to guests the night before, so they don’t feel the pressure of trying to see everyone on their special day.

-Two wedding suites, so they can both get ready separately and enjoy pre-ceremony drinks with bridesmaids and groomsmen.

-Knowing that the months of planning won’t disappear in the blink of an eye as the wedding day itself passes so quickly.

-Not having to worry about the cost and hassle of transporting guests to and from the wedding venue on the day.

-Feeling more relaxed, without the anxiety and stress of a one day wedding.

-The venue is dog friendly and feels homely and not pretentious.

-Lots of accommodation onsite and they can enjoy breakfast with guests the morning after, to say thank yous and final farewells.

What Guests enjoy about our Two Night Wedding Experience

It’s not just couples who give us great feedback. Many of our guests have also commented on how they will never forget a Two Night Wedding at Ellingham Hall. They enjoyed:

– Relaxing the night before the wedding and celebrating with the couple, making it feel like a mini holiday.

-Staying at the venue the night before, particularly for guests who have travelled some distance within the UK and from overseas.

-Having more time to get to know other guests and family members they hadn’t previously met, resulting in a better atmosphere from the off, on the wedding.

-Taking part in fun activities that were arranged by the couple, the night before the wedding day.

-Tucking into mouth-watering food and drinks throughout their two-night stay.

– Enjoying exploring the venue and grounds, which time doesn’t allow on a one day wedding.

Supplier Spotlight – Jane Gray Wedding Pianist

Jane Gray Wedding Pianist

Ask our Expert – Jane Gray

Music sets the tone for a wedding and is an important consideration for couples. Whether you opt for Indie, Ibiza Classics, Rock, Pop, Classical or a mix, it’s important you find a musician who can offer what you desire, to create the perfect ambience on your special day.

Jane Gray is an established North East Wedding Pianist specialising in personalised playlists that evoke real emotion for modern couples. Operating across the North East of England, Jane creates bespoke piano versions of the songs that mean the most to you and aims to make your wedding experience extra special, whilst keeping the soundtrack personal to the couple.

Top Tips on choosing Wedding Music for your Big Day!

Remember your wedding day is all about you! So why not have the songs that mean the most to you played romantically and ambiently. Whether it’s a song that played when you
first met, a band you both love, a 90’s dance classic from a memorable holiday together – you don’t have to stick with the traditional and this can evoke real emotion and lasting memories.

Jane has a vast and varied repertoire. She plays a broad range of music and will learn YOUR most treasured songs for your important wedding day moments such as your wedding ceremony aisle walk. She can personalise your day to reflect you both as a couple.

The piano is a universal sign of romance, and having piano music for any part of your wedding day, from your Guest Arrival right through to your Wedding Breakfast, can add that touch of class
and charm to really wow your guests.

The Night Before Celebration

Why not set the wedding vibes off the night before your big day, by hiring Jane Gray wedding pianist to play on Ellingham Hall’s Grand piano, to encourage you and your guests to kick back, relax and enjoy a good old singalong in preparation for the most important day of your life!

This is an exclusive optional extra that Jane Gray can offer, when booked alongside another service on your wedding day. (Subject to availability).

Pre Ceremony Drinks

Jane suggests couples should consider some soundtracks for guests to enjoy during the pre-ceremony drinks before they make their way to be seated for the Ceremony. This is the perfect time to add some romantic ambience with the dulcet tones of piano and add in some of your favourite music to give the start of the wedding day a unique feel.

To discuss all aspects of music for the wedding, Jane liaises with couples in advance of your big day – You may want a stripped back Taylor Swift rendition to be featured, or a romantic version of an Indie song! Jane can play the Hall’s own stunning Grand Piano or use her own full electric 88 key piano, whichever you prefer.

Wedding Ceremony

Ellingham Hall’s amazing Ceremony Room and Chapel are beautiful ceremony spaces for the piano to be played indoors to set the mood. This is where your most loved songs can really play an important role, for example when you walk down the aisle, sign the register and walk back down the aisle as a married couple!

Jane uses her musical ability to recreate your specific song requests as beautiful, poignant piano melodies that will make your guests gasp in awe, making the songs you’ve chosen sound ambient and wedding appropriate. Your music, your memories!

Drinks Reception

This is the best time to make the most of Jane’s extensive repertoire. Jane will work with you to help create a setlist completely tailored to you as a couple, from The Beatles to Blink 182, David Guetta to Oasis, Taylor Swift to Yungblud!

These exclusive versions of your favourite songs as well as a tailored setlist help to engrain moments in the memory and create the soundtrack for your wedding day. From 1960’s rock n roll to 90’s britpop, pop music to modern dance covers and everything in between, Jane recreates these songs in her unique style to bring something special to the day, and create moments with you and your guests that will be remembered forever.

Wedding Breakfast

Jane can play ambient piano music in the Chapel as you both relax and dine with family and friends, soaking up and reflecting on the memories already made on such a special day.

Again, your tailored setlist means you can choose to have the music you want played to really reflect you both as a couple, while also having the option to add in family and friends favourites too. Jane is bound to get your guests asking ‘I know this song?!’

Choosing the perfect wedding venue wasn’t a drag!

wedding venue in the North East

Rebecca & David

8th April 2023

After more than ten years of always being the bridesmaid, Becky Robertson finally became the bride! And thanks to all those years helping friends choose wedding venues, she already had a few
places in mind.

Although originally from Ryton, Becky now lives in Essex with her husband David. After checking out wedding venues in Essex, the couple decided to look for their perfect wedding venue in the North East.

“With helping friends plan their weddings, Ellingham Hall was already on my radar,” she says. “We had viewed four of five different wedding venues in Newcastle but I just got butterflies when I was at Ellingham Hall.”

No matter where they chose to be married, guests would need to travel some distance either north or south. “Ellingham Hall’s ability to offer exclusive use for two nights made that decision much easier,” Becky explains.

The flexibility of the rooms also meant that Becky and David’s love of entertaining made Ellingham Hall the best choice wedding venue in the North East– especially for a game of bingo, organised by two drag queens!

NOTES FROM THE BRIDE

What was the Inspiration behind Drag Queen Bingo?

We’ve been to a lot of weddings and what stands out is those with multiple types of entertainment. We wanted to offer different touch points and entertainment areas for our guests, and I’ve been to bingo brunch with drag queens and they’re always hilarious. We thought that would be ideal for the Friday, so everyone could get to know each other and relax into the wedding day.

What Special Touches did you add for Guests?

We chose to get married over Easter as people wouldn’t be at work on Good Friday and they’d be off on Bank Holiday Monday too, which would help those who were travelling.

The night before, Ellingham Hall provided tasty fish and chip boxes, after all, you can’t have Good Friday without fish and chips. That really helped to break the ice between
guests.

On our big day, we had pre-ceremony drinks and because I love Bridgerton, we had a string quartet before and after the ceremony which was very atmospheric.

During the wedding breakfast in the Chapel we had an amazing gospel choir from Sheffield. We were going for a Love
Actually vibe!

Tell us about your Evening Entertainment…

We wanted to finish with a big party and went for a saxophone DJ-type of vibe. We wanted to keep wowing people right up to the After Dark party, which everyone loved. All our guests were amazed that the drinks were pre-ordered in the underground bar. They loved the Den games room down there, too. We made a lot of use out of all the fabulous unique rooms at Ellingham Hall.

Did your Guests enjoy the Wedding?

Everyone commented on how much they enjoyed the wedding and entertainment as well as Ellingham Hall and the lovely accommodation. Everyone loved the fact the bedrooms were personalised. The cottages were just beautiful too and perfect for friends with small children and my grandparents, who could get some time away from all the busyness.

Everyone is still reminiscing about the whole wedding weekend! My friends want us to get married every year so we can come back to Ellingham Hall.

What’s your Advice to Brides planning a Wedding?

Like us, incorporate your personality into your wedding. We really wanted entertainment, but if you love sports, include sports or if you love PlayStations, set some up.

Ellingham Hall’s exclusive use means it’s easy to do that, so look at the venue and see if they can offer what you want. Be true to yourself and whatever you want out of your wedding.

Wedding Day

When I arrive at your venue, I like to make sure you have the most relaxing time prior to your ceremony, keeping a calm and fun atmosphere can really help with pre wedding nerves. I particularly love working at Ellingham Hall as you have a beautiful dressing room situated within Lady B’s Wedding Suite with amazing natural light for hair and makeup. It’s also a great space where you can retreat to for some quiet time but are close enough to the main wedding suite to be with all your party and the buzzy excitement.

I’m going to share four popular bridal looks for upcoming brides to consider for their big day:

Stunning colours and a lot of new friends were made!

wedding venue in the North East

Rebecca & David

8th April 2023

After more than ten years of always being the bridesmaid, Becky Robertson finally became the bride! And thanks to all those years helping friends choose wedding venues, she already had a few
places in mind.

Although originally from Ryton, Becky now lives in Essex with her husband David. After checking out wedding venues in Essex, the couple decided to look for their perfect wedding venue in the North East.

It’s official: our Wedding Events Team is one of the UK’s best!

TWIA National Award 2023

TWIA National Award 2023

We are delighted to announce that the ‘Events Team’ at Ellingham Hall has been named one of the best in the UK after receiving a TWIA National Award 2023.

Our team was recognised in The Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA) after being ‘Highly Commended’ by the judges.

And while we were just pipped to the top award, it was a real honour to be the only North East Wedding Venue with an ‘Events Team’ in the National final.

We were handed the award at The Wedding Industry Award’s glittering National final event in London at the Underglobe venue in late January. The team at our Exclusive Wedding Venue beat dozens of wedding venues across the UK to be awarded the ‘Highly Commended’ accolade.

It was a real honour to represent Northumberland and the North East Wedding Venues in the National heats.

As our Director Anthony Hunter says, “To win at a Regional level for the second year in a row was a huge achievement for our business. To then take the team to London for the National awards and receive a ‘Highly Commended’, against a huge volume of successful venues in the Country was a wonderful feeling.

“The team has worked so hard and thoroughly deserves this recognition. I couldn’t be prouder. The North East often gets overlooked at National level despite having some fantastic businesses, however I’m pleased we could represent the quality of our region at this prestigious event.”

Ellingham Hall General Manager David Fordham-Scott says that the award was recognition for everyone who works at the venue.

He comments, “I am incredibly honoured to have not only represented our ‘Events Team‘ at the National Awards, and to have Ellingham Hall recognised as a jewel in the crown for the North East.

“TWIA is such a fantastic platform as it brings the Wedding Industry together to network, and celebrate each other’s success.

“At Ellingham we strive to take our couples on a very special journey, creating many magical moments along the way to ensure that their requirements aren’t only met but exceeded. This award is voted for by those couples which makes this achievement all the more rewarding.
