Beautiful autumn colours proved to be everything Alexandra and David Stott wished for when they married in October.
Ellingham Hall’s creeping Virginia that accents the building, gives a gorgeous glow up to the Hall for an autumn wedding. The golden backdrop was perfect for Alexandra & David’s seasonal ceremony, and good weather was the icing on the cake!
Alexandra said: “We wanted to marry in the autumn as its our preferred season. When we viewed Ellingham, it was in October and the colours on the building and within the grounds were absolutely beautiful.”
David added: “The colours at Ellingham Hall are unique. They are a stunning orange colour that we knew would look amazing in our photos.”
And Ellingham Hall’s Two Night Wedding Experience was also the perfect solution for the couple. With Alexandra originally from Salford, some of their guests had to travel hours from the North West, Portsmouth and Northern Ireland.
“We wanted a wedding venue with plenty accommodation,” she said. “It was great that our guests didn’t have to travel from a hotel to the wedding venue. Once they were onsite, they could just relax and enjoy the celebrations.”
After David popped the question on the Newcastle Quayside back in August 2022, the couple started looking for wedding venues that October.
Alexandra: We live in Newcastle, so we wanted somewhere we could easily travel to on the lead up to the wedding, if needed. Ellingham Hall is only about half an hour away from where we live, so it was perfect for us.
David: We wanted our wedding venue to be in the Northumberland countryside. We booked to view three venues on one day and had others on our list to view at a later date. Ellingham Hall was our third venue, and when we saw the building enveloped in those beautiful autumn colours, we cancelled all the other appointments – we knew instantly it was for us!
Alexandra: I think the aesthetics of Ellingham, especially in the autumn are breath-taking. But the biggest draw for us was the luxurious accommodation onsite. The two-night wedding experience is something different. Ellingham offer the chance to extend the celebrations which was great for our guests who had further to travel.
David: I had no idea it was even a thing. To be honest, when the team at Ellingham Hall discussed it with us, I thought, “That’s 100% what we want.”
Alexandra: Until we visited Ellingham Hall, I think we’d envisaged staying at a nearby hotel and then travelling to the wedding venue on the morning of the ceremony. I don’t think we’d seen any places that offered a Two-Night Wedding.
Alexandra: I think they were absolutely amazed. It was really nice our guests travelled up the night before and could settled in at the venue. I suppose if we didn’t have a two-night experience, they might have still travelled up the night before but they would have stayed in a hotel and then moved to the venue on the day of the wedding. Whereas arriving the night before at the venue allows people to relax, mingle, have a good night’s sleep and wake refreshed for the wedding day ahead.
David: I wasn’t expecting it to be as vibrant as what it was. To be honest, it was above and beyond expectations. Every single person that walked through the door said they couldn’t believe how beautiful the venue is. I kind of knew what it was going to look great because we’d seen the venue at that time of year at the viewing. It was one of the reasons why we chose it. There is a unique colour to Ellingham Hall that stands out for an Autumn Wedding!
David: Every guest we spoke to said it was amazing. From the food, the fire pits, the overnight stay, the wedding ceremony… everything was perfect.
Alexandra: I feel like we just want to plan it all over again! I don’t think either of us felt much stress in the lead up to the wedding, I think, because we had two years to plan, and pay for everything. Our guests said the environment was exceptional. There was lots of space to relax and they had everything they needed.
David: And they all said they had the best level of service from the Wedding Team at
Ellingham Hall. Everything was above and beyond what we expected. I can’t give the staff enough praise and we are truly grateful.

Ellingham Hall is the most stunning venue, and we knew it was the one for us the moment we stepped inside. We travelled around 3 hours in search of the perfect venue, and after a long search without finding “”the one,”” Ellingham instantly stood out. The staff are absolutely amazing, they went above and beyond to help us create the most perfect day, and it truly was perfect. We honestly can’t thank them enough. From recommending suppliers (since we lived further away), to answering all our questions, to helping us set up for the big day, they were always there for us. We loved that Ellingham is a two-night wedding venue and that it’s exclusively yours during your stay, which made everything feel so personal and intimate. One of our favourite touches was the Poochie Parlour, our dogs are a huge part of our lives, so having a space for them meant everything to us. We’re really hoping they host another Dine & Stay around Christmas or Valentine’s, any excuse to go back! All our guests had such lovely things to say about the staff and the Hall itself. Thank you again for the most amazing day.
