Tips on Hair Prep for your Wedding Day

I often say to clients, “your hair is a beautiful accessory you get to wear every day, so you should treat it the way you would an expensive silk shirt, carefully and gently! “

It’s your crowning glory after all. Some shampoo can weigh your hair down with nasty build up, so in the lead up to your wedding I usually recommend using a high-quality hair care range. My personal favourite is Phillip Kingsley. You can get a travel sized starter pack with shampoo, conditioner and their well-loved elasticizer treatment which is a great size to take on honeymoon too! Christopher Robin’s Prickly Pear Mask is another favourite and is super hydrating for stressed locks.

I recommend to get regular trims with a stylist you trust , 8-10 weeks apart to grow healthy hair and have your colour touched up 1-2 weeks before your big day to allow your hair to settle. Don’t do anything radical before your big day in case you regret it later, but a few fine highlights can bring gorgeous extra dimension to some of the more textured styles currently on trend.

Your Hair Trial

At your trial I will ask you to bring images of your dress and any hair styles you like, even if you think your hair won’t achieve it. My brides are often surprised at what can be achieved with professional styling. I can also advise if your style will need clip-in extensions for your chosen look when we sit together at your trial and I can help you select accessories, if you’re feeling a bit daunted by the choice. I offer pre-trial hair prep by email and pre-wedding day hair prep advice at the trial to get the most out of your hair on both days.

Wedding Day

When I arrive at your venue, I like to make sure you have the most relaxing time prior to your ceremony, keeping a calm and fun atmosphere can really help with pre wedding nerves. I particularly love working at Ellingham Hall as you have a beautiful dressing room situated within Lady B’s Wedding Suite with amazing natural light for hair and makeup. It’s also a great space where you can retreat to for some quiet time but are close enough to the main wedding suite to be with all your party and the buzzy excitement.

I’m going to share four popular bridal looks for upcoming brides to consider for their big day:

Glamorous Waves

Beautiful Alexia wanted glamorous waves with a chunky braid in her own hair. She wanted her bridesmaids to compliment her style but not to overshadow.

We chose softly textured updo’s with side braids for the bridesmaids, which complemented Alexia’s look perfectly.

Ultra Modern

Gorgeous Sarah decided to keep her natural hair colour and wanted a hairstyle to work with her natural highlights. She gravitated towards an ultra-modern, low textured bun, with lots of interesting texture throughout.

Her bridesmaids had a simpler version to compliment the stunning bridal look.

I always believe the bride’s hair should outshine everyone else’s on her big day!

Timeless Classic

Lovely Emma chose a look of elegance and classic simplicity. She wanted a timeless modern hairstyle to reflect her own no fuss taste.

Clean and polished, a classic chignon will never date, but can always be reinterpreted to suit current trends.

For Emma I kept the look beautifully low key with intentional softness and naturally falling tendrils.

Relaxed Boho

Pretty Emmy wanted a more relaxed boho look for her mid-summer wedding.

Her own individual quirky style lent itself to a very soft undone arrangement with a braid as centre stage and soft textured tendrils framing the finished look.
