How did you find your Wedding Planning Journey?

We were given the opportunity to attend various open days and viewing days, which was great because it enabled me to become familiar with the venue. I got on well with all the members of the Ellingham Hall Team and by the time of our wedding, I felt like I knew them all personally. I also knew that I didn’t want a wedding in a hotel, where it’s very busy with other guests and sometimes other weddings. Jack and I both wanted complete privacy with our family and friends.

What made Ellingham Hall feel so special?

At our first viewing appointment we met Lynn, and she made me feel so welcome. She answered every question and explained everything clearly. That helped me feel settled right from the start. Even if you’ve been to a wedding before, there are things you don’t know that need to happen. It really calmed me and reassured me. I had a really lovely morning and I felt very calm. I remember, some RAF jets flew over just before the ceremony took place which gave me a little anxiety, so I went outside for some fresh air. A member of the housekeeping team chatted to me in the corridor, and it was brilliant because she took the time to help calm my nerves. Even a little thing like that can make a big difference, at such an important and emotional moment.

Were those nerves calmed in time for the Ceremony?

Yes, thanks to both Debbie and David. They kept checking in on me and when it came to walking down the grand staircase to the ceremony, Debbie was right there with me to make me feel comfortable. I walked down the aisle on my own and I did have some nervous thoughts as I stood waiting to enter the ceremony room, but David was there and held my hand for reassurance. His kind words gave me the confidence to walk down the aisle. I didn’t think I could do that and wouldn’t have done so without both their support and encouragement.

What did your guests think of the Two Night Wedding?

Our guests loved the two-night wedding experience and having exclusive use of the Hall. It felt like home from the first night and that really helped me relax. That was one of the main things I loved so much: Ellingham Hall doesn’t just look after the bride and groom; they care about all the wedding guests.

We had guests who are vegetarian and, on the night before, at the barbecue, their food was boxed separately. That kind of little extra care and detail makes such a difference.

What’s your advice for Brides-to-Be?

Don’t rush your plans. I’d recommend you give a lot of thought before booking your suppliers, because I made a few mistakes there. Some suppliers will be with you on the wedding morning, so it’s important you choose the right ones who won’t add stress to your morning and will help you to enjoy the buildup.

I would also advise that you drink plenty of water, because I didn’t and had a bit of a moment later in the evening as I was dehydrated. Self-care is very important on your big day!

The couple, who live just 12 miles from Ellingham, were also unsure whether their families would want to choose to stay for two nights. We were handed the award at The Wedding Industry Award’s glittering National final event in London at the Underglobe venue in late January. The team at our Exclusive Wedding Venue beat dozens of wedding venues across the UK to be awarded the ‘Highly Commended’ accolade.

It was a real honour to represent Northumberland and the North East Wedding Venues in the National heats.

As our Director Anthony Hunter says, “To win at a Regional level for the second year in a row was a huge achievement for our business. To then take the team to London for the National awards and receive a ‘Highly Commended’, against a huge volume of successful venues in the Country was a wonderful feeling.

We had guests who are vegetarian and, on the night before, at the barbecue, their food was boxed separately. That kind of little extra care and detail makes such a difference.

What’s your Advice to Brides planning a Wedding?

Like us, incorporate your personality into your wedding. We really wanted entertainment, but if you love sports, include sports or if you love PlayStations, set some up.

Ellingham Hall’s exclusive use means it’s easy to do that, so look at the venue and see if they can offer what you want. Be true to yourself and whatever you want out of your wedding.

Would you do it all again?

I would! But I would also love to relive it as a guest. Everyone loved it so much and commented on how amazing Ellingham Hall was, particularly the staff, the food… well everything! It’s a real credit to the team. I keep asking friends to get married at Ellingham Hall so we can visit again!

We were handed the award at The Wedding Industry Award’s glittering National final event in London at the Underglobe venue in late January. The team at our Exclusive Wedding Venue beat dozens of wedding venues across the UK to be awarded the ‘Highly Commended’ accolade.

It was a real honour to represent Northumberland and the North East Wedding Venues in the National heats.

As our Director Anthony Hunter says, “To win at a Regional level for the second year in a row was a huge achievement for our business. To then take the team to London for the National awards and receive a ‘Highly Commended’, against a huge volume of successful venues in the Country was a wonderful feeling.

“The team has worked so hard and thoroughly deserves this recognition. I couldn’t be prouder. The North East often gets overlooked at National level despite having some fantastic businesses, however I’m pleased we could represent the quality of our region at this prestigious event.”

Ellingham Hall General Manager David Fordham-Scott says that the award was recognition for everyone who works at the venue.

He comments, “I am incredibly honoured to have not only represented our ‘Events Team‘ at the National Awards, and to have Ellingham Hall recognised as a jewel in the crown for the North East.

“TWIA is such a fantastic platform as it brings the Wedding Industry together to network, and celebrate each other’s success.

Icing on the Cake 

Executive Head Chef, John Blackmore, says “Winning this award has been the icing on ‘the wedding cake’ for the kitchen team.

“From creating the menus behind the scenes, to serving the dishes on the big day, getting this appreciation from the couples has been a very proud moment for the whole team.”

The team look forward to the National Finals which will take place on Wednesday 25th January and the unique Underglobe Venue in London.
