Church Wedding gets Ellingham Hall’s blessing!

Church Wedding

Rachael & Gareth

18th May 2024

Gareth and Rachael hoped to find their perfect Church Wedding Venue in the beautiful Northumberland countryside.

Whilst the couple now live in Tynemouth, they previously lived in Northumberland when they were planning their summer wedding celebration. It was important they chose the right venue to fulfil their dreams because of the logistical considerations they had to make for their wider family.

Gareth says, “I’m from the Wirral and Rachael is from Lincolnshire so we needed somewhere with plenty of onsite accommodation as our families were travelling from all over the country.”

Throw in the fact that Rachael had also dreamed of a church wedding, and they both felt there was only one venue that could offer everything they dreamed of

Notes from the Couple

Why did you choose a Church Wedding?

Rachael: We both wanted a traditional wedding, so we decided to book a Church for our wedding ceremony. Ellingham Hall is perfectly situated next to St Maurice Church, and they could also accommodate our families for our two-night wedding celebration.

Gareth: By opting for a church wedding, we had the perfect excuse to hire a vintage car, even though we didn’t have far to travel. We chose a traditional wedding car and wanted to have some photos captured of Rachael’s arrival at the Church and also some portraits taken with the car when we arrived back at the venue for the rest of the wedding celebrations.

How was your Church Ceremony?

Rachael: I really loved the fact that the church was separate from the Hall as it gave us two different places to enjoy on the day. It was also handy for guests as they only had to walk a few minutes through the secret door in Ellingham’s grounds and down a country lane to St Maurice Church. There was a lovely little gate where the confetti was thrown and I thought the setting was gorgeous.

Gareth: We hired a string quartet to play during the ceremony which provided a lovely ambience. Once the ceremony in the church finished, the quartet then headed to Ellingham and played outdoors while we enjoyed cocktails and canapés on the lawn before the wedding breakfast. It was a lovely sunny day, and we made the right choice to have the live music in both the church and at the Hall.

Did you like the idea of a Two-Night Wedding Experience?

Gareth: We didn’t know Two Night Weddings were a thing before visiting Ellingham Hall. They chatted to us about their two-night wedding experience, and we knew it would be perfect. We viewed four or five venues including Ellingham Hall’s sister venue Lemmington Hall. It too was beautiful, but we needed more accommodation as we had so many family members wanting to stay over for the wedding. Ellingham Hall was the perfect choice, as if we’d chosen one of the other venues, a lot of our guests would have had to stay offsite, which wouldn’t have been ideal.

What did your Guests think about your Venue?

Rachael: I don’t think many of our guests knew what to expect. I think they thought it would be the same as staying in a hotel. However, on arrival, when they found out that we had Exclusive Use of the Hall and grounds, they absolutely loved it. Having the whole place to yourselves is great because you can relax as if it’s your own home.

Gareth: Everyone was so relaxed for the whole weekend. It was lovely to chill on the wedding morning with my best man and groomsmen and enjoy a beer out on the private roof terrace before heading down to the church for our wedding ceremony

You also had a Special Guest…

Rachael: Yes, our dog Finley was at the wedding. He’s a golden retriever and he wore a little bow tie, though it was hidden under his fur most of the time! We hired a dog chaperone to bring him to the venue, as he was only about nine months old at the time, so very excitable. It was a good thing that he was able to come along and interact with our guests and we could get photos with him.

Tell us about your Personal Touches

Rachael: We go on lots of holidays and our tables were named after places we’d visited with the guests who were sitting on those tables. One table was named Bali, a place where we’d met some of our friends. Our top table was named Rome as that was the city where Gareth proposed to me. All the table names meant something personal to us both.

What’s your Wedding Planning Advice for Couples?

Rachael: Do all the planning beforehand, but on the day don’t worry about anything because it’s all in the hands of your weddings team. Just relax and enjoy your special day.

Gareth: I’d say to write everything down about what you want and add little bits as you go. We put our own personal touches on things, for example we arranged a game of rounders because Ellingham Hall has great grounds for outdoor activities. We played the game between the wedding breakfast and evening party. We made sure we had written down that we needed a rounders kit. Most importantly, enjoy the whole experience!

Black Tie to Tie the Knot!

Beth explains, “Cristian proposed to me on 6th February, so we wanted our wedding to be as close to the date as possible. It bleached down with snow when we got engaged and I always dreamed of a white winter wedding.

“It wasn’t until after the ceremony and we were enjoying our wedding breakfast in the Chapel that we were lucky to have a flurry of snow. Hannah, our wedding planner, dashed in to say it was snowing. So, we quickly rushed to see it. It wasn’t much and we didn’t get any great photos, but the fact it snowed was an extra part of making my day unforgettable!”

Gareth says, “I’m from the Wirral and Rachael is from Lincolnshire so we needed somewhere with plenty of onsite accommodation as our families were travelling from all over the country.”

Whilst the couple now live in Tynemouth, they previously lived in Northumberland when they were planning their summer wedding celebration. It was important they chose the right venue to fulfil their dreams because of the logistical considerations they had to make for their wider family.

Have you any Advice for Brides to Be?

Book Ellingham Hall! Seriously, though, if people want a whole Wedding Experience and want to feel at home, it is the best place to be. I wouldn’t change a thing and the main point to remember is that it’s your day, so choose what you like.

Ruth Celebrates her 21st Birthday in Style!

Ruth explains “I thought holding my birthday party at Ellingham Hall would be extra special, as both the venue and team have real meaning to me. I also knew my friends and family would be well looked after.”

She says that with such a stunning Stately Home, there was only one style for her birthday, it had to be black tie!

“Ellingham Hall is so stylish that I didn’t think partywear would be glamorous enough for such a beautiful countryside venue. So, to make the celebration even more elaborate, I asked everyone to wear black tie and ballgowns,” adds Ruth.

To mark the occasion, Ruth’s family also brought along a special family heirloom that has made an appearance at the 21st birthday parties of her relatives since 1942.

We’re TWIA Regional Finalists for a second year!

TWIA Regional Finalist 2023

TWIA Regional Finalists 2023

We are absolutely delighted to announce that our Events Team has again been shortlisted as a Regional Finalist at The Wedding Industry Awards 2023!

Last year, our events team were crowned North East and Yorkshire’s Event Team of the Year , so we are incredibly excited to be nominated for the second year running.

The accolade demonstrates that our couples recognise every member of staff and the hard work that goes into making their wedding one to remember.

Director Anthony Hunter said, “It’s a real achievement to be nominated two years running, especially during such a busy year when we’ve worked even harder to accommodate those couples who had to cancel their plans due to the pandemic.

“The award is not just an accolade for the Events Team, it acknowledges the tremendous effort that every single member of staff makes for our couples.”

TWIA Regional Finalist

General Manager David Fordham-Scott said, “The entire team at Ellingham Hall should feel very proud. We would like to thank all our couples who voted for us this year, we are extremely grateful.

“Every member from each department has to pull together to ensure everything runs smoothly as our couples have exclusive use of the venue for two days.

“So, as well as our Weddings Team – who plan the wedding from the welcome the night before, to the evening reception and the morning after – all our departments must work together seamlessly to ensure our couples have an unforgettable experience.”

The Regional Awards will take place on 7th November at a glittering ceremony at The Fed  – and if we are successful for the second year running, we’ll go through to the National Finals in London on 25th January.

We’re a big hit for sales training

When specialist equine supplies company Bedmax needed a venue to carry out sales training they wanted a venue with no hurdles.

So they chose Ellingham Hall and managers were so impressed with their first visit they have vowed they will be back.

Bedmax, which produces horse bedding from its manufacturing facility in north Northumberland, needed somewhere with easy access for its UK sales team to carry out training.
As well as having use of a meeting room, the management team were delighted that they had exclusive use of the hall and the grounds for their staff.

Tilly Fuller, Head Office and HR Manager at Bedmax, emailed us to say: “Bedmax would like to express our sincere thanks to Lynn and the team at Ellingham Hall for hosting our sales training day.

“The location of the venue is stunning with fabulous décor to match. Our meeting room was perfect and it was lovely to have exclusive use of the additional reception rooms. Parking was plentiful and the staff very friendly and accommodating.

“Ellingham Hall offers a wonderful, competitively priced venue. We will be back!”
