Church Wedding gets Ellingham Hall’s blessing!

Rachael & Gareth

18th May 2024

Gareth and Rachael hoped to find their perfect Church Wedding Venue in the beautiful Northumberland countryside.

Whilst the couple now live in Tynemouth, they previously lived in Northumberland when they were planning their summer wedding celebration. It was important they chose the right venue to fulfil their dreams because of the logistical considerations they had to make for their wider family.

Gareth says, “I’m from the Wirral and Rachael is from Lincolnshire so we needed somewhere with plenty of onsite accommodation as our families were travelling from all over the country.”

Throw in the fact that Rachael had also dreamed of a church wedding, and they both felt there was only one venue that could offer everything they dreamed of

Notes from the Couple

Why did you choose a Church Wedding?

Rachael: We both wanted a traditional wedding, so we decided to book a Church for our wedding ceremony. Ellingham Hall is perfectly situated next to St Maurice Church, and they could also accommodate our families for our two-night wedding celebration.

Gareth: By opting for a church wedding, we had the perfect excuse to hire a vintage car, even though we didn’t have far to travel. We chose a traditional wedding car and wanted to have some photos captured of Rachael’s arrival at the Church and also some portraits taken with the car when we arrived back at the venue for the rest of the wedding celebrations.

How was your Church Ceremony?

Rachael: I really loved the fact that the church was separate from the Hall as it gave us two different places to enjoy on the day. It was also handy for guests as they only had to walk a few minutes through the secret door in Ellingham’s grounds and down a country lane to St Maurice Church. There was a lovely little gate where the confetti was thrown and I thought the setting was gorgeous.

Gareth: We hired a string quartet to play during the ceremony which provided a lovely ambience. Once the ceremony in the church finished, the quartet then headed to Ellingham and played outdoors while we enjoyed cocktails and canapés on the lawn before the wedding breakfast. It was a lovely sunny day, and we made the right choice to have the live music in both the church and at the Hall.

Did you like the idea of a Two-Night Wedding Experience?

Gareth: We didn’t know Two Night Weddings were a thing before visiting Ellingham Hall. They chatted to us about their two-night wedding experience, and we knew it would be perfect. We viewed four or five venues including Ellingham Hall’s sister venue Lemmington Hall. It too was beautiful, but we needed more accommodation as we had so many family members wanting to stay over for the wedding. Ellingham Hall was the perfect choice, as if we’d chosen one of the other venues, a lot of our guests would have had to stay offsite, which wouldn’t have been ideal.

What did your Guests think about your Venue?

Rachael: I don’t think many of our guests knew what to expect. I think they thought it would be the same as staying in a hotel. However, on arrival, when they found out that we had Exclusive Use of the Hall and grounds, they absolutely loved it. Having the whole place to yourselves is great because you can relax as if it’s your own home.

Gareth: Everyone was so relaxed for the whole weekend. It was lovely to chill on the wedding morning with my best man and groomsmen and enjoy a beer out on the private roof terrace before heading down to the church for our wedding ceremony

You also had a Special Guest…

Rachael: Yes, our dog Finley was at the wedding. He’s a golden retriever and he wore a little bow tie, though it was hidden under his fur most of the time! We hired a dog chaperone to bring him to the venue, as he was only about nine months old at the time, so very excitable. It was a good thing that he was able to come along and interact with our guests and we could get photos with him.

Tell us about your Personal Touches

Rachael: We go on lots of holidays and our tables were named after places we’d visited with the guests who were sitting on those tables. One table was named Bali, a place where we’d met some of our friends. Our top table was named Rome as that was the city where Gareth proposed to me. All the table names meant something personal to us both.

What’s your Wedding Planning Advice for Couples?

Rachael: Do all the planning beforehand, but on the day don’t worry about anything because it’s all in the hands of your weddings team. Just relax and enjoy your special day.

Gareth: I’d say to write everything down about what you want and add little bits as you go. We put our own personal touches on things, for example we arranged a game of rounders because Ellingham Hall has great grounds for outdoor activities. We played the game between the wedding breakfast and evening party. We made sure we had written down that we needed a rounders kit. Most importantly, enjoy the whole experience!

Humes Outfitters find the perfect North East Location Venue

Whilst the couple now live in Tynemouth, they previously lived in Northumberland when they were planning their summer wedding celebration. It was important they chose the right venue to fulfil their dreams because of the logistical considerations they had to make for their wider family.

Why did you choose Ellingham Hall as your North East Location Venue?

Abbie Jeffrey, Social and Content Manager for Humes said It was the impressive rooms and beautiful décor that first caught our eye. With many unique rooms that told their own story, we knew that there would be many amazing photo opportunities, but Ellingham Hall exceeded our expectations. The overall grand, luxurious feel of the venue and its location in the picturesque Northumberland countryside captured the essence of our photoshoot perfectly.”

Tell us about the Spaces you used for the Shoot

We shot in the two stunning Reception Rooms (the Entrance Hall and Drawing Room), Lady B’s Wedding Suite, Grand Staircase and the exterior manicured Grounds. Each space provided a new visual and ambience, with so many vibrant colours, pieces of unique furniture, textures and natural lighting to give our catalogue the variety we were looking for.

Why Choose a Two Night Wedding?

Are you looking for a Northumberland wedding venue with a difference? If so, you may wish to consider Ellingham Hall – because we are the specialists of the ‘Two Night Wedding’.

But what makes our weddings stand out from the crowd?

Our Two Night Wedding experience allows you to enjoy a more relaxing wedding celebration, as you and your guests take over the Hall and grounds from late afternoon the night before, until you’ve said your farewells, the morning after your ‘big day’.

This means you don’t have the stress of getting to the venue on the day you tie the knot. And because the night before allows friends and family from both sides to break the ice and mingle, this sets the atmosphere on the wedding day off to the perfect start!

Home of the Two Night Wedding

Since opening our doors in 2007, our family-owned wedding venue wanted to do things differently.

Our founders decided to offer couples the entire Hall and its eight acres of picturesque grounds and woodland across two nights of wedding celebrations. That’s because they understand how stressful it is, squeezing all of your celebrations into a single day. Also, as Ellingham offers so much for you and your guests to enjoy and explore – they wouldn’t want you to miss out!

They wanted couples to have the chance to spend quality time with their families and friends, enjoying exclusive use, so they’d never bump into other wedding parties during their Two Night Wedding Experience.

Over the past 17 years, Ellingham Hall has become renowned for its unforgettable two-night weddings and has set the trend for such an experience.

A lot of our success is thanks to our multi award-winning team, who feel like part of your family during your stay. The teams passion and wealth of experience in planning and delivering dream weddings is highly praised by couples. Nothing is too much trouble, and as a result, our couples have a wedding they and their guests will always remember.

From the luxurious accommodation, homely reception rooms, underground party Den and an array of alfresco terraces and luscious lawns and woodland, we offer something for every family member to enjoy.

For us, it’s the small details that make a big difference to your wedding.

Why Couples love our Two Night Wedding Experience

Since 2007 we have enjoyed listening to our couples feedback, which has helped us to continually improve our venue and wedding experience. Couples told us they love:

-Spending quality time with friends and family, so they have more time to prepare, celebrate and relax.

-Enjoying complete privacy and there’s no chance of bumping into other wedding parties at the venue or within the grounds.

-Mingling and chatting to guests the night before, so they don’t feel the pressure of trying to see everyone on their special day.

-Two wedding suites, so they can both get ready separately and enjoy pre-ceremony drinks with bridesmaids and groomsmen.

-Knowing that the months of planning won’t disappear in the blink of an eye as the wedding day itself passes so quickly.

-Not having to worry about the cost and hassle of transporting guests to and from the wedding venue on the day.

-Feeling more relaxed, without the anxiety and stress of a one day wedding.

-The venue is dog friendly and feels homely and not pretentious.

-Lots of accommodation onsite and they can enjoy breakfast with guests the morning after, to say thank yous and final farewells.

What Guests enjoy about our Two Night Wedding Experience

It’s not just couples who give us great feedback. Many of our guests have also commented on how they will never forget a Two Night Wedding at Ellingham Hall. They enjoyed:

– Relaxing the night before the wedding and celebrating with the couple, making it feel like a mini holiday.

-Staying at the venue the night before, particularly for guests who have travelled some distance within the UK and from overseas.

-Having more time to get to know other guests and family members they hadn’t previously met, resulting in a better atmosphere from the off, on the wedding.

-Taking part in fun activities that were arranged by the couple, the night before the wedding day.

-Tucking into mouth-watering food and drinks throughout their two-night stay.

– Enjoying exploring the venue and grounds, which time doesn’t allow on a one day wedding.

Do you want to know more?

If you are looking for an alternative to a traditional one day wedding and are searching for weekend wedding venues, then why not arrange a private viewing? Contact us today and find out how we can help you enjoy a Two Night Wedding Experience that you and your guests will never forget!

Why not check out our sister venue Lemmington Hall, which offers a summer Two Night Wedding Experience during the months of July to September.

Top Tips on choosing Wedding Music for your Big Day!

Remember your wedding day is all about you! So why not have the songs that mean the most to you played romantically and ambiently. Whether it’s a song that played when you
first met, a band you both love, a 90’s dance classic from a memorable holiday together – you don’t have to stick with the traditional and this can evoke real emotion and lasting memories.

Jane has a vast and varied repertoire. She plays a broad range of music and will learn YOUR most treasured songs for your important wedding day moments such as your wedding ceremony aisle walk. She can personalise your day to reflect you both as a couple.

The piano is a universal sign of romance, and having piano music for any part of your wedding day, from your Guest Arrival right through to your Wedding Breakfast, can add that touch of class
and charm to really wow your guests.

Wedding Ceremony

Ellingham Hall’s amazing Ceremony Room and Chapel are beautiful ceremony spaces for the piano to be played indoors to set the mood. This is where your most loved songs can really play an important role, for example when you walk down the aisle, sign the register and walk back down the aisle as a married couple!

Jane uses her musical ability to recreate your specific song requests as beautiful, poignant piano melodies that will make your guests gasp in awe, making the songs you’ve chosen sound ambient and wedding appropriate. Your music, your memories!

Drinks Reception

This is the best time to make the most of Jane’s extensive repertoire. Jane will work with you to help create a setlist completely tailored to you as a couple, from The Beatles to Blink 182, David Guetta to Oasis, Taylor Swift to Yungblud!

These exclusive versions of your favourite songs as well as a tailored setlist help to engrain moments in the memory and create the soundtrack for your wedding day. From 1960’s rock n roll to 90’s britpop, pop music to modern dance covers and everything in between, Jane recreates these songs in her unique style to bring something special to the day, and create moments with you and your guests that will be remembered forever.

Wedding Breakfast

Jane can play ambient piano music in the Chapel as you both relax and dine with family and friends, soaking up and reflecting on the memories already made on such a special day.

Again, your tailored setlist means you can choose to have the music you want played to really reflect you both as a couple, while also having the option to add in family and friends favourites too. Jane is bound to get your guests asking ‘I know this song?!’

Choosing the perfect wedding venue wasn’t a drag!

What’s your Advice to Brides planning a Wedding?

Like us, incorporate your personality into your wedding. We really wanted entertainment, but if you love sports, include sports or if you love PlayStations, set some up.

Ellingham Hall’s exclusive use means it’s easy to do that, so look at the venue and see if they can offer what you want. Be true to yourself and whatever you want out of your wedding.

Choosing a Two Night Wedding Venue is a No-Brainer!

Rachael & Gareth

The couple, who live just 12 miles from Ellingham, were also unsure whether their families would want to choose to stay for two nights. Georgia explains, “We weren’t sure if people would stay as, it’s so close, but we were wrong to think that. Everybody was there for the two nights, and it was fantastic because we got to make the most of our weekend wedding celebration. And it meant everyone relaxed the night before and got to know each other.”
