Couples Trip from Scotland for Dream Wedding, Hits all the Right Notes!

Dream Wedding

Rachel & Michael

31st August 2024
Rachel and Michael Moran headed south from Scotland for their dream wedding at Ellingham Hall in Northumberland.

The couple, who live near Duns on the Scottish border, had originally planned to get married in Italy.

But with so many guests needing to travel and find accommodation, they decided to look a little closer to home.

Rachel said she didn’t know where to concentrate their search for a wedding venue. “We didn’t know if we would look for a wedding venue in Scotland or Northumberland. I saw Ellingham Hall on Instagram and instantly fell in love with everything about it. So, we went for a viewing appointment.”

“I didn’t want to go anywhere that anyone we knew had been married. And I loved the fact Ellingham is an exclusive wedding venue, so you don’t share it with any other bridal parties.”

Tell us about your Emotional Visit

Ellingham Hall was the first wedding venue they viewed. Rachel said that the idea of a Two-Night Wedding Experience and the Hall’s ambience and idyllic setting exceeded their expectations.

“Michael is not really an emotional person. But during the viewing he got very emotional in the Ceremony Room,” explained Rachel. “I thought, ‘Wow, this is obviously a big deal for him.’ Then when I walked into Lady B’s Wedding Suite, I got emotional. Ellingham Hall had everything we were looking for, and we just knew right away it was the perfect venue for us.”

Rachel said that as well as the weekend wedding experience, she was drawn to Ellingham Hall by its breath-taking grounds.

Ellingham Hall is surrounded by 8 beautiful acres of grounds and woodland. And then there are parading peacocks and a fun underground After Dark party den. It all makes the weekend more than just a wedding day.

Had you heard of a Two-Night Wedding

I hadn’t, but I loved the idea of a weekend wedding. We wanted a big celebration and this was so much better than a one day wedding. Everyone says your wedding day goes by really fast and I didn’t believe them, but it just flew. Because we had a three-day wedding it was more of a celebration. Plus, my Dad hadn’t met Michael’s friends so it was lovely that he was able to get to
know them the night before. He was relaxed with them by the Friday night and was in a round buying drinks. If it’s just the wedding day, it can be awkward for guests who don’t know each other.

Tel us about your Wedding Day Entertainment

I arranged a lot of musical entertainment for our wedding, as it makes me very emotional. We wanted to make sure our guests were entertained throughout the full day. I studied hotel management at university, before taking my current role as a PA, so I am very organised. One of the girls said I didn’t need all of the entertainment – maybe I did go a little overboard!

Michael is from Scotland, so I arranged a piper to greet our guests. Our harpist played during the ceremony, she travelled down from Glasgow and played a song that reminded me of my grandma. That was a special moment for me. The saxophonist also came from Glasgow. I wanted an Ibiza theme for our summer wedding. He played outside while everyone enjoyed cocktails before our Wedding Breakfast.

We had a singer at the wedding breakfast before Andrelli String Quartet took over. I heard them at an Open Day at Ellingham Hall and they were so beautiful I cried. I knew we had to have them. And we also had a magician. Paul was fantastic and everyone was in awe of him. Then we had a DJ in the evening.

And the Celebration didn’t end there, did they?

No, we also booked the After Dark Experience. Some people knew about it, but it was a surprise for most. One of our younger guests took charge of the music. It was a lovely way to finish off the wedding day. Michael and I were full of emotions of the day so we didn’t stay up till 2am. Most weddings just finish when people are just getting into party mode, so it was amazing that guests could enjoy the after party until 2am.

How did you find the Ellingham Team?

They were incredible and made sure I was kept calm. I made backup playlists in case any of the musicians failed to arrive and the team knew what to do. On the night before we prepared two Spotify playlists to enjoy. The team knew exactly the times I wanted them playing and they did everything we requested. I didn’t have to think about a thing, everything was ready and sorted, they were fantastic!

What’s your Advice to anyone Planning a Wedding?

Be organised. As soon as we got engaged, I wrote down the suppliers I wanted to use. I listed everything that needed to be organised. It included even small touches such as name cards for the tables. You don’t want to miss anything, which may happen if you don’t start your list early. It takes away all the stress!

Did the Venue look perfect on your Big Day?

David: I wasn’t expecting it to be as vibrant as what it was. To be honest, it was above and beyond expectations. Every single person that walked through the door said they couldn’t believe how beautiful the venue is. I kind of knew what it was going to look great because we’d seen the venue at that time of year at the viewing. It was one of the reasons why we chose it. There is a unique colour to Ellingham Hall that stands out for an Autumn Wedding!

How was your Wedding Day?

David: Every guest we spoke to said it was amazing. From the food, the fire pits, the overnight stay, the wedding ceremony… everything was perfect.

Alexandra: I feel like we just want to plan it all over again! I don’t think either of us felt much stress in the lead up to the wedding, I think, because we had two years to plan, and pay for everything. Our guests said the environment was exceptional. There was lots of space to relax and they had everything they needed.

David: And they all said they had the best level of service from the Wedding Team at
Ellingham Hall. Everything was above and beyond what we expected. I can’t give the staff enough praise and we are truly grateful.

Fall in Love with this stunning Autumn Wedding at Ellingham Hall

Book Ellingham Hall! Seriously, though, if people want a whole Wedding Experience and want to feel at home, it is the best place to be. I wouldn’t change a thing and the main point to remember is that it’s your day, so choose what you like.
