Black Tie to Tie the Knot!

Black Tie Wedding

Beth & Cristian

8th February 2024

A flurry of snow isn’t something every bride dreams of when it comes to their wedding. But it was for Beth Saba – who was hoping for a sophisticated Black Tie Wedding during the winter season.

And a light dusting of snow was all it took to make Beth’s day just after she and husband Cristian had exchanged their vows in Ellingham Hall’s ornate Ceremony Room.

Beth explains, “Cristian proposed to me on 6th February, so we wanted our wedding to be as close to the date as possible. It bleached down with snow when we got engaged and I always dreamed of a white winter wedding.

“It wasn’t until after the ceremony and we were enjoying our wedding breakfast in the Chapel that we were lucky to have a flurry of snow. Hannah, our wedding planner, dashed in to say it was snowing. So, we quickly rushed to see it. It wasn’t much and we didn’t get any great photos, but the fact it snowed was an extra part of making my day unforgettable!”

NOTES FROM THE BRIDE

How was it getting married in the Winter?

It was cold and my arms were quite chilly, but I was just so high on adrenaline I didn’t feel it that much. Getting married in the winter was what we wanted as we got engaged in February. Having just a little bit of snow made it a perfect wedding day.

Why did you choose a Midweek Wedding?

The date we chose was the closest date we could get to the day we got engaged in 2022. I really loved the idea of getting married on a Thursday, which meant we still had the chance to enjoy the long weekend before going back to work and normality.

What made you choose a Black-Tie Dress code?

We’d been to a few weddings previously where the groom and groomsmen wore black tie, and the rest of the guests were in normal dress. I personally preferred the option of having everyone in a tuxedo, I think it looks smart. So, we made our dress code black tie, so all guests could wear it, not just the groom and the groomsmen. I thought our Black Tie Wedding looked great, especially during winter. It also worked well with the sophisticated backdrop of Ellingham Hall.

Why did you Choose Ellingham Hall as your Dream Venue?

Exclusive use was a major factor for us. I didn’t like the idea of getting married and mingling with people from other weddings or events. That was definitely a major draw. But also the fact that the Hall is set in large, beautiful countryside grounds with peacocks parading the lawns, which I thought was fabulous.

Debbie, Head of Weddings was also amazing during our viewing. We loved her straight away and immediately trusted her and everything just seemed to fall into place.

So, a Two-Night Wedding was new to you both?

It was, I didn’t know a Two Night Wedding was a thing. I feel it is extremely popular now, but when we booked, it wasn’t on our radar. That was an added bonus really.

Did your guests enjoy the Two Night Wedding Experience?

Everyone thought it was lovely. They absolutely loved the After Dark experience. I hadn’t really told many people about it. The party didn’t start properly until after 9pm and for it to finish at midnight would have been a shame. I’m really pleased we decided to opt for the wedding after party, as it gave guests an extra chance to just keep on dancing – It was good fun!

What’s your Advice to Couples planning a Wedding?

My advice would be to exclude all outside noise and do exactly what you and your partner want to do. I think it’s very easy to get influenced by what friends or family might think or say. All my family and friends were against the bridesmaids being in black dresses. But I really liked that idea of a Black Tie Wedding and stuck with it, and I’m so pleased I did because I think the dresses looked fab. I think you’ve just got to do what you want to do and remember, it’s your day. Just try and forget about other people’s opinions because at the end of the day, it’s about what you and your partner want to do.

The elegant drawing room at Ellingham Hall also became the centre of attention during a game of Mahjong the night before the wedding. Playing the centuries-old Chinese game, helped guests who flew in from China and America to get to know each other – and it helped Jiaxing’s parents feel at home.

Beth explains, “Cristian proposed to me on 6th February, so we wanted our wedding to be as close to the date as possible. It bleached down with snow when we got engaged and I always dreamed of a white winter wedding.

Ellingham Hall’s Events Team Celebrates Triple Award Success!!

Best Wedding Events Team

Wedding Industry Awards 2024

We are absolutely delighted – and humbled – to have been crowned the ‘Best Wedding Events Team’ in the North East and Yorkshire for an unprecedented third year in a row.

Our team was presented with the winning accolade at The Wedding Industry Awards (TWIA) Regional final earlier this month, at a glittering ceremony at the Vermont Hotel in Newcastle.

Being announced as Regional Winner for the Best Wedding Events Team in the North East and Yorkshire really is amazing. Having an unforgettable wedding experience requires more than a stunning venue and it was great to hear TWIA founder, Damian Bailey acknowledge our dedication for turning couples’ dreams into reality, for a third consecutive year.

It’s the cherry on top of the cake, as our business has had such a fantastic year. In the past 12 months, our new parent company ‘Unveiled Venues’ was launched to incorporate Ellingham Hall alongside two new sister venues.

As well as Ellingham Hall, the Unveiled Venues group has added luxury wedding venue Lemmington Hall in Alnwick and family gastro pub The Highlander Ponteland to its portfolio.

Unveiled Venues’ Group Director Anthony Hunter said the TWIA award for the wedding events team had signified an amazing year.

“The fact the team has scooped the Best Wedding Events Team at the Regional final for the third year running, shows that Unveiled Venues has firm foundations,” he said.

“I want to congratulate every member of the Ellingham Events Team that has been part of this success over the past three years. This recognition illustrates the importance of creating the best wedding experience for all our couples. I am immensely proud of every single member of our team!”

TWIA brings together the Regional Winners from all categories, which culminates in a National awards event each year. After beating a host of events teams from across the North East and Yorkshire last January, our team collected a Highly Commended award in the National final.

Group General Manager David Fordham-Scott said it was a privilege to represent Northumberland and the North East for the third year in a row.

“We’re hoping to bring home the National accolade to illustrate what the North East is renowned for – its warm hospitality,” he said.

“TWIA uses feedback from couples to make its decisions. Knowing that this industry award is down to the experience and comments of our valued couples makes it even more rewarding, because it tells us we’re giving people the high standard of service that every couple deserves.”

TWIA’s National final takes place on 24 January at London’s Underglobe. Last year, we were Highly Commended and we’re hoping to top that in the 2024 Final!

If you are considering a wedding venue in the North East, contact our wedding planning team today.
