Ruth explains “I thought holding my birthday party at Ellingham Hall would be extra special, as both the venue and team have real meaning to me. I also knew my friends and family would be well looked after.”

She says that with such a stunning Stately Home, there was only one style for her birthday, it had to be black tie!

“Ellingham Hall is so stylish that I didn’t think partywear would be glamorous enough for such a beautiful countryside venue. So, to make the celebration even more elaborate, I asked everyone to wear black tie and ballgowns,” adds Ruth.

To mark the occasion, Ruth’s family also brought along a special family heirloom that has made an appearance at the 21st birthday parties of her relatives since 1942.

Key to the Door

“The large key was given to my great-grandmother for her 21st birthday. She worked at the Vickers factory in Newcastle during the war and someone at the factory made it especially for her 21st.

“Since then, everyone in the family has had their photograph taken with the key when they reach the age of 21. And I’m really happy because the photographs look amazing. I’m in my dress and with the grand staircase in the background, the large key really stands out!.”

Private Hire Venue

Whilst Ellingham Hall is a perfect setting for exclusive two-night weddings, it was also an ideal private hire venue for Ruth’s birthday.

Some guests stayed over night in the boutique guest bedrooms and Ruth got the chance to experience the Hall in a different way to her normal role.

“I had the Ellingham Suite, which is one of the wedding suites. It’s stunning and it was fantastic because I got to enjoy the hot tub. It was a cold evening, but it was a fabulous experience getting to spend some of it on the private rooftop balcony in the hot tub.”

An Exclusive ‘Nightclub’

Being a 21st birthday, you might expect many people would consider a nightclub as a place to spend such a memorable night. Well, Ruth did enjoy that experience – and she says it was even better than what a nightclub would offer.

“We chose the After Dark experience, which means you get to use the underground party zone to continue the celebration until 2am. I know a lot of wedding parties use it and I can see why. It was like my own nightclub but better, as we were together as friends and there was only about 15 of us.”

Delicious Food

Just like the couples we welcome for weddings, Ruth also got to experience the mouth-watering dishes from our experienced Head Chef David and his team of culinary creatives.

“It was lovely and because the chefs know I love curry, they made me curry sauce to go with our chicken and chip supper. It was delicious, our chefs are so accommodating, and everyone loved the food.”

Picture This

As well as the exclusive use, and unique rooms and spaces at Ellingham Hall, Ruth also booked a 360 Photobooth, which she says was a lot of fun.

“The photobooth was great fun and everyone enjoyed using it. It’s a good job we had it, really, because as it turned out, we were all so busy having a great time we hardly took any photos.

“Normally, we’d be taking a lot of photos, but I suppose that just shows what a great time we had at Ellingham Hall, we forgot to take pictures!”

Proms are a big part of life for school pupils these days. And a group of students and teachers from Berwick Academy enjoyed the unique setting of Ellingham Hall during their special prom event for leavers.

With a red-carpet welcome and mocktails for the group of 60 who made the short trip south, it really was a special occasion.

While you would expect students to enjoy the chance to “bust some moves” and let their hair down, no one quite expected that our resident peacock would be such a huge hit.

Head of Year Jess Angus wrote to us after a fantastic evening and said: “I do owe an apology to the resident peacock… I didn’t realise that a bird would fascinate the students as much as he did.”

The chapel was dressed in gold and black for the Prom and a Northumbrian hog roast fed the peckish pupils.

We had lots of fun welcoming the students. It was good to see them making the most of the fun photo booth, while others took the opportunity to chill in our reception rooms and out in the grounds.

Jess added: “Our Prom was amazing, and I honestly cannot thank your staff enough for the trust and professionalism you had with the students and myself.

“The students had the ‘run of the place’ and they really liked the ability to be able to go and sit somewhere quiet, wander around outside, chill on the roof terrace or have a good dance on the dance floor. I’ve always highly rated Ellingham Hall as a venue and it has exceeded any of the high expectations.”
