Northumberland’s Ellingham Hall has been voted the county’s Most Outstanding Luxury Wedding Venue by a select panel of judges.
It was given the title in the 2019 Global Luxury Hotel & Spa Awards – and it comes just months after the exclusive-use venue’s wedding co-ordinator picked up an accolade as being the North East’s best co-ordinator.
Award organisers say they were created to recognise companies, brands and individuals who are “excelling in the ever-growing industry of luxury hospitality – those who go above and beyond to exemplify experiences clients are seeking when looking for their latest getaway or luxury venue”.
Rachel Barlow, Ellingham Hall’s new Weddings Marketing and Communications Manager, said she was delighted that the venue had scooped the award.
“The judges make the decision based on venues across the county. There isn’t a nomination procedure, they judge all venues, so it was a really pleasant surprise to be given this award,” she said.
General Manager Anthony Hunter added: “We were delighted when our Wedding Co-ordinator, Wendy, was named the North East’s best co-ordinator last autumn, and this is a testament to what a great team we have here. We’ve made a substantial investment in the venue, refurbishing bedrooms, the drawing room, and adding even more luxury touches.”
The news comes just as the hall’s owners are focusing on new business from the corporate and events sector, which Anthony said would help increase job opportunities and further grow the business.
“Wow we don’t even know where to start, as you can imagine we have been in such a bubble ever since our big day. Our wedding day was everything we wished for and more. You guys are just amazing and we can’t thank you all enough, from our first day coming to view to the planning process to our big day, everything just ran so smoothly, you guys have been an absolute credit. Yous have helped us in so many ways. Yous have listened to everything we asked. And our day was beautiful because of that. Not only did we have the most amazing day, our guests did too, we have had so many comments back saying “it’s the best wedding I’ve ever been to” “that is how you do a wedding” “the staff were all amazing” “this venue is stunning” it’s just incredible, very overwhelming but we’ll be forever grateful for that. Big big thank you to you and David for being with us on the morning of our wedding making sure everything is running smoothly. Big big thank you to Alicia for all her help and support. And to every other Ellingham staff member present on our big day, thank you because without all of you guys we wouldn’t have had any of that! I wish we could just do it all again, it was perfect! “I booked a lunch party at Ellingham Hall for a very discerning group comprising of generous supporters of a local charity. We were 27 people and we enjoyed a Champagne reception before a delicious three course lunch. Wendy and her team could not do enough for us, our every request was granted. Dietary requirements were very efficiently and creatively dealt with and the result was a most enjoyable event at a price I was very satisfied with. I would definitely use Ellingham Hall again for a function like this.”

“The hall catered for everything we needed, from the luxury entrance rooms, to the grounds outside, which we used to talk with clients in more detail afterwards. It was exactly what we wanted to allow us to host a presentation of this size. Guests were welcomed with a selection of drinks and canapés in the entrance hall and then again on departure. The seminar itself took place in the Chapel, while the dining room and drawing room provided the perfect spaces clients to relax.
